In this class you will learn the art of needle felting and how to create a felted design on a piece of fabric. Choose a design from a handful of patterns or create your own. Learn to transfer a pattern to fabric, fill in the design with roving, and needle felt the fiber in place. Or skip the pattern and just let the design evolve. We will be working on upholstery fabric samples of different weights and textures, some with designs that can potentially be incorporated into the felted design that you create. This is a very simple form of needle felting, and will give you a good understanding of the process. The sky is the limit when it comes to the design you create.
FINISHING OPTIONS
You will have the option to needle felt your design within an embroidery hoop, which will also serve as the frame for your finished piece. Bring one with you or select this add-on when checking out and it will be furnished. Finished felted art in its hoop frame can be hung with a ribbon or simply on a nail through the screw at the top of the hoop.
Other finishing options are up to student to complete at home. Some options would be to frame your felted piece, make a pillow with your felted design, a wall hanging, or a cover for a journal. Choose a coordinating piece of fabric for these projects, if desired.
WHAT IS NEEDLE FELTING
Needle felting is the process of using a single barbed needle to repeatedly jab alpaca/wool fibers causing the fiber to tangle and become compact. Both two and three dimensional pieces can be created using this craft.
INCLUDED IN FEE
Fabric, roving, and use of felting foam and needles during class are included in class fee. A wooden embroidery hoop is provided if you select that option.
CLASS TIME
Class will begin at 1pm and finish about 3pm.
