Create your very own Irish leprechaun—just in time for St. Patrick’s Day! This 3-hour, hands-on class is a fun and engaging way to learn the art of sculptural needle felting while creating a whimsical three-dimensional character.
Needle felting uses a single barbed needle to repeatedly sculpt loose wool fiber, causing it to tangle and compact into a firm shape. You’ll be guided step-by-step through the entire process as we build your leprechaun from the inside out.
This is a dimensional project that includes multiple small components, making it ideal for confident beginners and those who have felted before. Everything is broken down into manageable steps, and individual guidance is provided throughout class.
During class, you will learn how to:
• Create a firm core foundation
• Build shape by wrapping and felting roving
• Sculpt three-dimensional features such as arms, legs, hat, nose, and beard
• Add personality and finishing details
Each leprechaun develops its own charm — no two will be alike.
Cost of class includes all materials and use of felting foam and tools needed for project during class.
Class will begin at 1pm and finish about 4pm.
This class is designed for participants ages 16 and older. Youth ages 12–15 are welcome to attend when registered with an adult companion who is also enrolled in the class.
Needle Felting Kits, including a Leprechaun Felting Kit, and other Felting Supplies are available for purchase if you’d like to continue creating at home. These also make thoughtful handmade gifts.
This workshop is part of our ongoing series of hands-on Fiber Arts Classes at Alpaca Meadows in Mansfield, Ohio. We offer small-group instruction in needle felting, wet felting, knitting, crochet, spinning, and seasonal creative projects throughout the year.
