Carding and combing are pre-spinning treatments to align the fibers which enables you to spin fibers more easily. For the technique of felting or making woolen blankets, carding is essential. Combing straightens the fibers more than carding. This difference determines the character of the spun thread: worsted or woolen-spun.
These popular and handy tools are a unique device which can be used for de-hairing and fine fiber combing. After combing, the fiber can be pulled into a sliver or spun straight from the comb. In order to ensure a long life, the teeth on all Louet carders are made of high grade plated steel wire. As a safety precaution, all Louet combs are machined so they are not razor sharp. The Louet mini combs are lightweight and easy on the wrists. They are made of ash with a lacquer finish.
The hooks on the handles make it possible to attach the comb holding the fiber to a cord around your waist, leaving both hand free to manipulate the fiber while spinning directly off the comb!

SINGLE ROW VS DOUBLE ROW COMBS
Single Row Combs are particularly useful for coarser wool. Double Row Combs are great for finer fibers. They will help align the fibers for producing a worsted yarn and will remove most of the short fibers. Practice makes combs easy and quick to use. Fibers and colors can also be blended using mini combs. They will help you to prepare a sliver that will give an excellent result when spinning worsted yarns. Try using a diz for taking the wool off the combs. The resulting sliver is a joy to spin and, as is often the case, the time spent in preparation will result in smoother spinning later.
