The budget spinning wheel S17 is designed for the aspiring new spinner. This version has a double treadle To keep the price more affordable, we offer it unfinished and largely made from laminated birch. The wood is sanded and the edges are rounded, so it only requires a finish with a lacquer, stain or wax.

In 2024, Louët added a double treadle version of the S17 The wheel comes as a kit requiring some assembly, a flyer with sliding guides, a lazy kate and three bobbins , The technical specifications are the same as the IrT version of the S10 Concept, so all S10 flyers and bobbins will fit your wheel.

With the S17, the wood will be sanded and the edges rounded, however, there may be some rough spots which the user can remove with sand paper we provide in the kit. The back post on the S17 is 32mm thick, the original S17 skein winder will not fit the new version, however, our stand alone skein winder will solve that problem. A great wheel at a great price! The first generation Louet spinning wheels, like the S10 and S17, all have a single belt bobbin drive with an adjustable flyer brake to regulate tension. This results in spinning wheels that are very easy to learn how to spin on, and also very suitable to spin thicker yarns.

The bobbins have three whorls that can be used to obtain three spinning speeds or ratios (speed of the wheel is determined between the size differential between main fly wheel and whorl on the bobbin). By using different types of bobbins and flyers, Louet spinning wheels can be used to produce every kind of yarn, from coarse wool to fine silks. A High Speed Set is also available for this wheel for easier spinning of very fine yarns.

Finally, an excellent spinning wheel must turn freely and quietly. Accordingly we use maintenance-free ball bearings in the main hub and at the footman connection. (No lubrication is required). The wheels are made of a laminated hardwood with a "birch" exterior finish.
