In this class, you will learn the art of needle felting and how to create a felted design on fabric. Choose a design from a selection of patterns or create your own. You’ll learn how to transfer a pattern to fabric, fill in the design with roving, and needle felt the fiber securely in place. Or, skip the pattern entirely and let your design evolve organically.
We will be working on upholstery fabric samples of varying weights and textures. Some fabrics include woven designs that can be incorporated into your felted piece, adding interest and inspiration to your work. This is a very simple, approachable form of needle felting and provides a great foundation for understanding the process. The sky is the limit when it comes to the design you create.
This class is suitable for beginners and those looking for a relaxed, creative introduction to needle felting on fabric.
You will have the option to needle felt your design within an embroidery hoop, which also serves as the frame for your finished piece. You may bring your own hoop or select this add-on at checkout, and one will be provided. Finished felted art displayed in its hoop can be hung with a ribbon or mounted directly on a nail using the screw at the top of the hoop.
Additional finishing options may be completed at home. These include framing your felted piece, turning it into a pillow, creating a wall hanging, or using it as a journal cover.
Fabric, roving, use of felting foam and needles during class are included in class fee. A wooden embroidery hoop is provided if you select that option.
Class will begin at 1pm and finish about 3pm.
This class is designed for participants ages 16 and older. Youth ages 12–15 are welcome to attend when registered with an adult companion who is also enrolled in the class.
