This is Suri Alpaca Fiber, grown by a sweet alpaca named Alvira. Carefully skirted and prewashed, it’s ready to be carded, spun, or blended with other fibers. You can also spin it straight from the lock for beautifully textured art yarn. Suri alpaca spins into a silky, lightweight yarn with excellent drape and strength.
This is Alvira’s blanket (or prime) fiber, naturally white and approximately 5 inches in length. Her fleece is fine, which means it’s very soft to the touch. It takes dye beautifully—similar to mohair—producing vibrant, saturated colors.
Suri blends well with silk, seacell, tencel, cormo, merino, kid mohair, and rambouillet. Even a small amount—around 10%—adds shine and softness to a fiber blend. It’s also a great choice for needle and wet felting, weaving, embellishments, and even knit or crochet work. The longer locks are perfect for doll hair; just find the tips and gently pull them away from the rest of the fiber.
This fiber has been pre-washed—soaked in soapy water and rinsed thoroughly to remove most dust. While it’s been hand-picked to reduce vegetable matter, you may still come across small bits of hay or straw that can be easily removed as you work.
Sold in two ounce quantities.
