This listing is for 2 ounces of silky Suri Alpaca fiber, carefully skirted and prewashed—ready to card, blend, or spin straight from the locks into a textured art yarn. Suri fiber produces a strong, lightweight yarn with beautiful drape and natural sheen. Two ounces of fiber fills a sandwich-size ziplock bag.
This is prime (blanket) fiber grown by a beautiful alpaca named Hope, who was just 4 years old at the time of shearing. Her fiber is exceptionally soft and of a lovely natural white, with locks averaging 5 inches in length. Like mohair, Suri takes dye beautifully, producing brilliant, saturated colors.
Suri alpaca blends wonderfully with silk, seacell, tencel, Cormo, Merino, kid mohair, and Rambouillet—just 10% Suri can add shine, texture, and softness to your projects. It's also excellent for needle felting, wet felting, weaving, knitting, crocheting, and more.
✨ A favorite among doll makers:
Use as doll hair by gently separating the locks—simply find the tips (not the cut ends) and pull them away from the rest.
This fiber has been prewashed—soaked in soapy water and rinsed multiple times to remove most dust and debris. While picked through by hand, you may still find small bits of hay or straw, easily removed as you work.
