The S17 is an exceptional wheel for beginner spinners. It comes standard with 3 bobbins, lazy kate and standard flyer. Its functionality and adaptability are such that you can grow with your wheel adding Art yarn flyer and bulky bobbins or High speed flyer and bobbins for fine spinning. This wheel will let you explore the wonderful world of hand spinning.

The wheel is a kit and needs complete assembly. The wood is unfinished - you will need to lacquer, oil, or paint your new S17.

With the S17, the wood will be sanded and the edges rounded, however, there may be some rough spots which the user can remove with sand paper we provide in the kit. The back post on the S17 is 32mm thick, the original S17 skein winder will not fit the new version, however, our stand alone skein winder will solve that problem. A great wheel at a great price! The first generation Louet spinning wheels, like the S10 and S17, all have a single belt bobbin drive with an adjustable flyer brake to regulate tension. This results in spinning wheels that are very easy to learn how to spin on, and also very suitable to spin thicker yarns.

The bobbins have three whorls that can be used to obtain three spinning speeds or ratios (speed of the wheel is determined between the size differential between main fly wheel and whorl on the bobbin). By using different types of bobbins and flyers, Louet spinning wheels can be used to produce every kind of yarn, from coarse wool to fine silks. A High Speed Set is also available for this wheel for easier spinning of very fine yarns.

Finally, an excellent spinning wheel must turn freely and quietly. Accordingly we use maintenance-free ball bearings in the main hub and at the footman connection. (No lubrication is required). The wheels are made of a laminated hardwood with a "birch" exterior finish.

Our bobbins all have whirls with three options for three ratio settings, allowing you to customize your yarn. These ratios are:

• 1:5.5- For use with heavy yarns and slow spinning
• 1:7.5- Perfect for medium yarns
• 1:10.5- used with fine yarns or fast spinning
• High speed bobbin ratios: 1:6.5, 1:9.5, 1:15
