This listing is for two ounces of Suri Alpaca fiber, carefully skirted and prewashed—ready for carding, blending, or spinning directly from the lock into a silky, textured art yarn. Suri fiber produces a strong, lightweight yarn with beautiful drape and sheen.
This is prime (blanket) fiber grown by one of our sweetest alpacas, Luminous, who was 15 years old at the time of shearing. Her fiber is of medium fineness, and while she never had a cria of her own, on more than one occasion she lovingly adopted other babies—allowing them to nurse from her.
The fiber is a natural white and approximately 5 inches in length. Like mohair, it takes dye beautifully, resulting in brilliantly rich colors.
Suri blends especially well with fibers such as silk, seacell, tencel, Cormo, Merino, kid mohair, and Rambouillet—often just 10% Suri is enough to add shine and strength to your blend. It’s also excellent for needle felting, wet felting, weaving, and even knitting or crocheting. The longer locks make stunning doll hair—simply find the tips and gently separate them from the rest.
This fiber has been soaked in soapy water and rinsed several times to remove the majority of dust and debris. It’s been hand-picked to remove vegetable matter, though you may still find tiny bits of hay or straw, which should fall out easily as you work with it.
Grown with care on our alpaca farm in Mansfield, Ohio.
